Gurumayi’s poem brings up deep emotion in me. Her description of a mother rings so true that tears of recognition and love well up in my eyes. Her words beckon me to reflect on how I can become aware of the love inside me so that I can share it at all times, even when my child’s fear or anger challenges my equipoise.
I am grateful to Gurumayi for helping me to appreciate my tremendous destiny of being a mother in this lifetime. I pray that I may bring the same loving attention to my connection with the Guru and to Mother Earth as I do with my child. I have never known a love as powerful or meaningful as being a mother to my child. And now, through grace, I am coming to know this kind of love.

Hearing and then reading Gurumayi’s poem about motherhood touched me in a profound way. I remembered feeling so incredibly blessed as a child to have a mother who loved me completely, who buoyed me whenever I needed her support. Today, at 89, she continues to offer unconditional love.
I remembered experiencing that feeling of unconditional love that emerged from the depths of my being when my daughter was born. I felt then that I finally understood what my mother felt for me. Indeed, “love is timeless,” as Gurumayi said in the Mother’s Day satsang.
I am so grateful for the reminders pulsing through this poem of the responsibility, commitment, and ecstasy that exemplify motherhood. I felt showered with Gurumayi’s blessings as I imbibed each word. I felt reinvigorated to be a beacon of light for my daughter as she navigates her teenage journey. I felt fortified and confident that with my mother’s love, my love for my daughter, and my Guru’s love, I’ve got this covered!

Gurumayi’s poem moved me deeply. I thought of my own mother, who is a great blessing in my life. And I thought of my own experience of being a mother, especially the immediate expansion of my heart when I first held my son. Who knew love could be so immense!
Then as I continued to read the poem, my heart expanded more and more as I thought of the immeasurable love Gurumayi showers upon me every moment—always supporting, guiding, and loving me through every experience.

Gurumayi’s poem really touched my heart. For me, Mother has always been the center of the universe, both when I was a child and when I became a mother myself. I experienced motherhood as a force way beyond my limited self. I’ve become so much more due to the vast experience that motherhood has required of me. Though my hair is now gray and I walk with a cane, I possess a strength that I have gained through motherhood. I am so grateful for this beautiful, truthful tribute to the Divine Mother.

Gurumayi’s poem struck a chord that is still resounding as I write this. Today I celebrated Mother’s Day with my mother and my children. There were love and laughter and good stories shared, and there were moments of tension and misunderstandings. It was like a typical day in a mother’s life with easy and not-so-easy moments.
Afterwards I read Gurumayi’s poem, and I felt understood as a mother. I felt at ease. Through the words, so exquisitely selected, I felt like I was receiving a hug from Gurumayi.
Happy Mother’s Day to you, Gurumayi, for every day of your life! Thank you for helping my mother’s heart shine!

How beautifully "A Mother’s Pride" expresses the gift that motherhood, in its multitude of forms, is to the world. The older I get, the more I recognize just how hard and unselfishly my mother worked to raise her children to the best of her ability. At age ninety-nine, she continues to be an example of grace, generosity, and thoughtfulness. I continue to imbibe important lessons from my mom with every precious moment we have together.

Reading Gurumayi’s poem inspires me to be more dedicated to motherhood. Sometimes I feel unsettled when taking care of my children prevents me from being more regular in my Siddha Yoga practices.
