I was amazed to open up the Siddha Yoga path website today and see the title Kundalini Stavaha and the image of the bright orange sky behind it.

Only yesterday I had the inner feeling to sing this hymn after quite some time. Seeing it on the website today is a confirmation for me of my connection to the Guru through the power of Shri Kundalini.

Singing the Kundalini Stavaha reminds me of Baba’s practice of worshiping the goddess Kundalini—for her wisdom, grace, and blessings—with great love, as he describes in his spiritual autobiography, Play of Consciousness. Remembering Baba’s practice infuses my own singing of this hymn with respect and love for the gift of the awakened Kundalini.

I have a practice of listening to the Kundalini Stavaha with my whole family every day. But yesterday my daughter suggested that I use headphones to listen to the Siddha Yoga CD on which Gurumayi sings this hymn. When I was listening to it, my body started vibrating and I disappeared into a deep meditation. I loved it and am so grateful to have the CD of this hymn to Kundalini Shakti.

I feel a deep affinity for the Kundalini Stavaha, and I have sung it for a number of years now, usually several times a week. I also make a point of reading the English translation out loud afterwards, and I find this to be an extremely powerful experience. When I sing this hymn, I feel it reduces my ego, and for this reason I absolutely love it!

Since this hymn has appeared on the Siddha Yoga path website, I have been singing it every morning after I wake up. I sometimes hear the melody gently reminding me to sing it even before I am fully awake. When I am in a rush and don’t have enough time at home, I sing it on the way to work. Verse 9 in particular has motivated me to continue my practice, until I too “become a yogi.”

Although I know the verses by heart, I can still lose track when my mind gets distracted. Then I start over again, and allow the Heart to take over and guide me in singing Kundalini Stavaha.

In 1982, I attended Siddha Yoga satsangs in Vancouver, British Columbia. One weekend, a Swami visited us for a few days, and we sang Kundalini Stavaha. I knew all the words and sang it with great gusto.

All of a sudden, I experienced that a huge cobra serpent had arisen at the base of my spine and traveled up toward my cranium. I was really taken aback by this but understood this was a sign of the awakened Kundalini, so I remained calm. When the cobra ascended into my head, its hood opened and the serpent’s nose was touching my ajna chakra, between my eyebrows.

Kundalini Stavaha is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful chants ever created. To this day, my meditations are very blissful. All of this was possible because I had received shaktipat diksha, divine initiation, from Baba Muktananda.

A few weeks before seeing this post, I began singing the Kundalini Stavaha once a week as part of my morning practices. I wanted to deepen my relationship with the awakened Kundalini.

Each time I sing this hymn and read the poetic, heartfelt translation, I feel awed by the power, grace, intelligence, and benevolence of Kundalini Shakti. As I surrender to her wisdom, I can feel what I once thought of as “me” dissolving into identification with Kundalini Shakti’s love, light, and compassion.

Last night before going to sleep, my son and I listened to this hymn in the silence of night, under the warmth of a blanket. After a while, I realized that my talkative six-year-old son had also slipped into silence.

We slept soundly, and at 5 a.m. I meditated. I immediately connected to my steady breath and had a sweet meditation session. I know it was the gift of Kundalini Stavaha. Then, I went back to sleep for an hour, during which I received Gurumayi’s darshan in a dream!

What a sublime experience to sing Kundalini Stavaha. What a blessing. What a clear understanding of the goddess Kundalini and the spiritual world that she reveals. May the cool light of her divine power be known to all beings.

This morning as I woke up, I heard the melody of Kundalini Stavaha humming inside me. Then some words of the hymn came up from within. I felt that the goddess Kundalini was inviting me to worship her with this hymn today! So I prepared myself and sang. While I was singing the verses, I felt more and more connected to my temple of happiness inside. I experienced silence, warmth, and freedom.

Later, when I opened the Siddha Yoga path website and saw that the Kundalini Stavaha had been posted today, I was amazed, and I plunged again into the silence, warmth, and freedom that I experienced earlier, but this time it was magnified. I felt as if I had awakened at the Ashram, that there were no kilometers separating us. How wonderful! How sublime!
